AN ACT to repeal, and re-enact, with amendments, Section 7-66
of the Baltimore County Code, 1958 (1963 Supplement, being
Article 3 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title
"Baltimore County," subtitle "Article 7. Courts, Fines, For-
feitures and Imprisonment," subheading "Article III. Orphans'
Court and Register of Wills," to change the annual salaries of
the chief appraiser and the other appraisers appointed by the
Orphans' Court of Baltimore County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 7-66 of the Baltimore County Code, 1958 (1963 Sup-
plement, being Article 3 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland), title "Baltimore County," subtitle "Article 7. Courts,
Fines, Forfeitures and Imprisonment," subheading "Article III.
Orphans' Court and Register of Wills," be and it is hereby repealed
and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
7-66.
On granting letters testamentary or of administration or of col-
lection by the orphans' court of the county, a warrant or warrants
shall issue under the seal of office authorizing two persons of dis-
cretion, both of whom shall be selected by the orphans' court and
neither of whom shall be related to the deceased nor interested in
the administration, to appraise the goods, chattels and personal
estate of the deceased known to them or to be shown by the executor,
administrator or collector. The orphans' court shall appoint six
appraisers, to hold office at the pleasure of the court, who shall ap-
praise the goods, chattels and personal estates of all decedents under
the administration of the orphans' court. One of such persons shall
be designated as chief appraiser for the court at an annual salary
of [six thousand dollars] seven thousand five hundred dollars
($7,500), and the others shall be designated as his assistants at
an annual salary of [three thousand six hundred dollars] four
thousand FIVE HUNDRED dollars ($4,000) ($4,500) each and each
of the six appraisers shall receive a monthly expense account of fifty
dollars. Such salaries shall be in lieu of any and all other compensa-
tion for their duties as such. The register of wills of the county is
hereby authorized and directed to enact a schedule of fees to be
charged for the appraisal of the decedent's estates for the purpose of
defraying the salaries hereinbefore established. In the event the
fees derived from such schedule of fees are insufficient to pay such
salaries and expense accounts, then any deficiency shall be paid
from the general fees collected by the register of wills.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.
