in addition to any administrative or civil penalty otherwise appli-
cable, be subject to a line of not more than $1,000 or imprisonment
not to exceed one (1) year, or both.
[(b)] (f) On and after July 1, 1964, any person who engages
in business as a premium finance company without having registered
as provided in this subtitle shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and
shall, in addition to any other administrative or civil penalty other-
wise applicable, be subject to a fine of not more than $500 or im-
prisonmont not to exceed six (6) months, or both.
[(c)] (g) In addition to any other criminal or administrative
penalty provided in this subtitle or otherwise, an insured who shall
have paid such unlawful charges may within two (2) years from
the date of such payment recover from the premium finance com-
pany a sum equal to twice the amount of the overcharge or illegal
charge, together with reasonable counsel fees and the costs of the
proceeding.
CHAPTER 845
(House Bill 339)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40 (q) of
Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1964 Supplement),
title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact," subtitle "State's
Attorney," increasing, effective the first Monday in January, 1967,
the salary of the State's Attorney in Prince George's County, and
increasing, as of the effective date of this act, the salary of the
Deputy State's Attorney in Prince George's County and providing
that the Deputy State's Attorney shall devote full time and attention
to the duties of the office, and authorizing the Deputy State's
Attorney to sign indictments and criminal informations.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40 (q) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1964 Supplement), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact,"
subtitle "State's Attorney," be and it is hereby repealed and re-
enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:
40.
(q) In Prince George's County, (1) The State's Attorney's salary
is fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000) per annum[.] , and beginning
the first Monday in January, 1967, shall be twenty thousand dollars
($20,000) EIGHTEEN THOUSAND DOLLARS ($18,000) per an-
num. The State's Attorney, during his term of office, shall not,
except in connection with and in the performance of his duties
as such State's Attorney, appear as counsel or represent any
party professionally before any court, magistrate, board, commission
or agency of this State or any county or political subdivision of this
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1965.
