RACE, COLOR, CREED, OR NATIONAL ORIGIN. For the pur-
pose of this sub-title, a place of public accommodation means any
hotel, restaurant, inn, motel or an establishment commonly known
or recognized as regularly engaged in the business of providing
sleeping accommodations, or serving food, or both, for a considera-
tion, and which is open to the general public; except that premises
or portions of premises primarily devoted to the sale of alcoholic
beverages and generally described as bars, taverns, or cocktail
lounges are not places of public accommodation for the purposes of

this sub-title. [Nothing in this section shall apply to or within the

limits of Calvert, Caroline, Dorchester, Garrett, Kent, Queen Anne's,
St. Mary's, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico, and Worcester counties.
NOTHING IN THIS SECTION APPLIES TO OR WITHIN THE

LIMITS OF DORCHESTER, KENT, QUEEN ANNE'S AND WOR-
CESTER COUNTIES. The application of this section to and within

Carroll County is subject to the results of a referendum election in

that county, for which further provision is made herein.]

11A.

(A)   IT IS UNLAWFUL FOR ANY PERSON TO RECEIVE
ANY REMUNERATION OF ANY KIND WHATSOEVER FOR
PARTICIPATION IN ANY RACIAL DEMONSTRATION IN THE
STATE.

(B)   VIOLATION OF THIS SECTION IS PUNISHABLE UPON
CONVICTION BY FINE NOT TO EXCEED $1,000 OR BY IM-
PRISONMENT NOT TO EXCEED ONE YEAR OR BY BOTH
FINE AND IMPRISONMENT.

[16. Nothing in this sub-title shall apply to or within the limits

of Calvert, Caroline, Dorchester, Garrett, Kent, Queen Anne's, St.
Mary's, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico, and Worcester counties. NOTH-

SEC. 2A. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT SEC-
TION 2 OF CHAPTER 227 OF THE ACTS OF 1963, AND SEC-
TION 2 OF CHAPTER 228 OF THE ACTS OF 1963, BE AND
THEY ARE HEREBY REPEALED.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1964.

AN ACT to add a new Section 50A to Article 26 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition and 1963 Supplement), title
"Courts," subtitle "Pensions of Judges and Their Widows," to
follow immediately after Section 50 thereof, providing that the
