House Bill No. 381—McCready Hospital in Somerset County

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 566 (b)
of Article 48 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1963 Supplement),
title "Health," subtitle "Hospitals," to change provisions for financing
of a nursing home hospital adjacent to Edward McCready Hospital in
Somerset County by limiting CHANGING the amount contributed
thereto by Somerset County, changing the size of the hospital and
removing unnecessary requirements relating to reimbursement of the
County and the State agency to cooperate with the County in this
project.

Dear Mr. Speaker:

I have today vetoed House Bill 381, passed during the 1964
regular session of the General Assembly, and, in accordance with the
provisions of Article 2, Section 17 of the Constitution, I am returning
this bill to you, along with my veto message.

This bill pertains to the financing of a nursing home in Somerset
County and because of its local aspect, the Attorney General ruled
the same unconstitutional.

At the special session of the General Assembly, a bill was intro-
duced containing identical language. The bill passed both houses of
the General Assembly and was signed today. It is now Chapter 14
of the Acts of 1964.
