No. 15
(House Joint Resolution 24)
House Joint Resolution directing the Governor of Maryland to appoint
a commission of persons to investigate all means to provide more
space for hunting in order to protect the interests of hunters in
the State.
Whereas, As the population of Maryland rapidly increases and the
number of persons purchasing hunting licenses experience a similar
increase, the hunter is faced with an urgent and serious problem of
finding adequate open space for hunting; and
Whereas, There is a need for open spaces in the rural parts of the
State to meet the demand for recreational facilities which our
society finds necessary with the trend to shorter working hours, the
Lengthening span of today's life and the trend toward full retirement
at the age of 65 years or earlier; and
Whereas, More and greater economic pressures are being placed
in Maryland's Rural areas upon those citizens of the State engaged in
agricultural pursuits, and at the same time more farm lands and
privately owned rural properties are posted to prevent hunting; and
Whereas, The total impact of these trends can be seen by com-
paring the State's expenditures of $291,388 during the past ten years
