CHAPTER 12
(House Bill 178)

AN ACT to add new Section 534E to Article 27 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1963 Supplement), title "Crimes and Punishments,"
subtitle "Sabbath Breaking," to follow immediately after Section
534D thereof, exempting motor vehicle repairing, servicing or
washing from activities prohibited on Sundays.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 534E be and it is hereby added to Article 27 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1963 Supplement), title "Crimes and
Punishments," subtitle "Sabbath Breaking," to follow immediately
after Section 534D thereof, and to read as follows:

534E.

Nothing contained in Sections 492 or 522 of this Article shall be
construed to prohibit or make unlawful the washing,
OR servicing,
and repairing
of motor vehicles on the first day of the week, commonly
called Sunday. The work or employment of any operator, owner,
filling station attendant, car wash employee, garage employee or any
other employees or attendants in connection with such washing,
OR
servicing, and repairing of motor vehicles shall not be unlawful be-
cause performed on Sundays.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act is hereby declared
to be an emergency measure and necessary for the immediate preser-
vation of the public health and safety, and having been passed by a
yea and nay vote supported by three-fifths of the members elected
to each of the two houses of the General Assembly, the same shall
take effect from the date of its passage.

CHAPTER 13
(House Bill 194)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 15 of
Article 38A of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1963 Supplement),
title "Fires and Investigations," subtitle "Fireworks," to provide
that the term "fireworks" shall not include fuses, torpedoes, rockets,
FUSEES or other signal devices used to promote safety:

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 15 of Article 38A of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1963 Supplement), be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

15. Definitions.

(a) The term "fireworks" as used in this subtitle shall mean fire-
crackers, squibs, rockets, sparklers, Roman candles, torpedoes, bombs,
grenades, fire balloons, signal lights, and any combustible or explosive
