AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 532(a) of
the Charter and Public Local Laws of Baltimore City (1949 Edition,
being Article 4 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title
"Baltimore City," subtitle "Police Commissioner," as last amended
by Chapter 359 of the Acts of 1961, authorizing an increase of per-
sonnel in the several ranks of the Baltimore City Police Department.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 532(a) of the Charter and Public Local Laws of Balti-
more City (1949 Edition, being Article 4 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "Baltimore City," subtitle "Police Commis-
sioner," as last amended by Chapter 359 of the Acts of 1961, be and
it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
532.
(a) The Police Commissioner shall have the power to remove any
uniformed officer for any violation of any rule or regulation which
he may make and promulgate to the Police Department of Baltimore
City. The uniformed police force shall consist of nine (9) inspectors
of police, one to be designated, from time to time, by the Police Com-
missioner as Chief Inspector, to be assigned to such duties as the
Police Commissioner may from time to time direct, with full power
to the Police Commissioner to change such Chief Inspector at any
time he may desire to do so and appoint another one of the Inspectors
to the duties of said Chief Inspector; now NOT more than [twenty-
four] [24] thirty-seven (37) TWENTY-SEVEN (27) captains; not
more than one hundred [eight (108)] twenty (120) lieutenants; not
more than [four hundred ninety-seven (497)] five hundred ten (510)
sergeants; not more than three thousand five hundred fifty (3,550)
patrolmen; four (4) policewomen with the rank of sergeant and such
additional policewomen as may be necessary in the judgment of the
Commissioner. The civilian clerical employees of the Police Depart-
ment shall include such number of crossing guards as may be neces-
sary in the judgment of the Police Commissioner; such number of
station-house clerks; and such additional clerks and civilian employees
for duty at police headquarters, or elsewhere in the City of Baltimore,
as may in the judgment of the Police Commissioner be necessary.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1964. JANUARY 1, 1964.
