County, being Article 20 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land, published under the direction of the Board of County Commis-
sioners of Somerset County and edited by Carl N. Everstine, is legal-
ized. The Code shall contain all public local laws relating to Somerset
County following the 1963 regular session of the General Assembly of
Maryland, and it shall contain the charters of the several municipal
corporations within Somerset County as in effect on April 1, 1963.
The Code shall be deemed and taken in all the courts of the State, by
all justices of the peace and trial magistrates of the State, and by all
other public officials of the State and of its several political subdi-
visions, to be evidence of the public local laws of Somerset County in
effect at the time of compilation.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the Board of County Com-
missioners of Somerset County is authorized and directed to make
an appropriation to provide for the publication of the Code, and the
Board is further authorized to provide for the sale and distribution
of the Code.
Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37 (x) of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1962 Supplement),
title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and Duties," to change
the salaries and numbers of certain assistants to the Sheriff of
Baltimore City, and providing for the payment of insurance
coverage for vehicles used by the Sheriff's office.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37(x) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1962 Supplement), title "Sheriffs," subtitle "Compensation and
Duties," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
37.
(x) In Baltimore City, the Sheriff shall receive an annual salary
of $11,500.00. He shall appoint an under-sheriff and chief deputy at
an annual salary of [$7,000] $9,000 $8,450, one writ clerk and [two]
three assistant writ clerks at an annual salary of [$5,500] $6,500, one
stenographer and docket clerk at an annual salary of [$4,400] $5,400
$5,000 and thirty-four deputy sheriffs at annual salaries of $5,500 each
and such assistants at such compensation as shall be provided for
in the annual ordinance of estimates of Baltimore City. Provision
shall also be made in said ordinance for the expenses of the office
of the Sheriff, including the purchase and maintenance of motor
vehicles, and general insurance coverage for said vehicles, and the
Mayor and City Council shall have the same power with respect
