(b) In Cecil [County] and Charles Counties the Board of license
commissioners upon application shall issue a special permit authoriz-
ing licensees therein to stay open on New Year's Day without regard
to any restrictions as to hours or days of sale contained in this sub-
title; but the said licensees shall be subject to regulations adopted by
the board restricting and specifying the hours during which classes
of such licensees may stay open on New Year's Day.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

(Senate Bill 599)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sections 645K,
645M, and 645S of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1962 Supplement), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "II.
Venue, Procedure and Sentence", sub-heading "Employment of
Prisoners in Harford and Anne Arundel Counties", extending the
provisions of said sub-heading to Talbot County; providing that
certain collections thereunder shall be made by the State Depart-
ment of Parole and Probation; and defining the effect of this Act
upon another Bill passed by this General Assembly.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Sections 645K, 645M and 645S of Article 27 of the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1962 Supplement), title "Crimes and Punish-
ments", sub-title "II. Venue, Procedure and Sentence", sub-heading
"Employment of Prisoners in Harford and Anne Arundel Counties",
be, and it is hereby repealed, and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:
Employment of prisoners [in Harford and Anne Arundel Counties]
645K.
Whenever a person shall be convicted of crime and sentenced to
imprisonment in any county, town or city jail by the circuit court
for [Harford or Anne Arundel County] the counties to which this
sub-title applies, the judge imposing sentence may prescribe that
insofar as possible the person may continue his regular employment
or obtain new employment while serving the term of his sentence.
If convicted person has been regularly employed the sheriff shall
arrange for a continuation of said work insofar as possible without
interruption. The sheriff shall make every effort to secure some suit-
able employment for the prisoner if he is not employed in any job.
The sheriff shall try to obtain employment for the prisoner paying
a fair and reasonable wage, and the prisoner shall work at fair and
reasonable employment and hours per day and per week.
