AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 14 of
Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title
"Public Education", sub-title "Chapter 2. Formation of Boards",
relating generally to the Board of Education for Harford County,
and to provide for the shortening of the term of one member of
the said board, , AND MAKING PROVISION FOR THE EF-
FECT OF THIS ACT.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 14 of Article 77 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Public Education", sub-title "Chapter 2. For-
mation of Boards", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
14.
[The County Board of Education for Harford County shall be com-
posed of five members. The present members of said Board shall
continue to hold their office for the terms for which they were
appointed and the Governor shall appoint two additional members
of said Board, one of whom shall serve until May 1, 1955, and
one of whom shall serve until May 1, 1956. The members of
said Board appointed after the effective date of this section shall
serve for a term of five years, except as herein provided.] The
County Board of Education of Harford County shall consist of
five members who shall be appointed by the Governor for terms of
five years each, beginning on May 1 of the year in which appointed.
Except as in this section specified, the Board shall be subject to the
provisions of Section 6 of this Article. Notwithstanding the provi-
sions of this section, of the members of the Board to be appointed
in the year 1965 one member shall be appointed for a term of three
years, and thereafter this term of office shall be for five* years as
provided herein.
SEC. 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, THAT NOTHING
IN THIS ACT SHALL BE CONSTRUED AS APPLYING TO OR
AFFECTING THE TENURE OF THE MEMBERS OF THE
BOARD OF EDUCATION FOR HARFORD COUNTY WHO ARE
IN OFFICE AS OF THE EFFECTIVE DATE OF THIS ACT.
Sec. 2. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take
effect June 1, 1963.
