Sec. 4. Effective Date.

This Act shall take effect and be in force from and after the first
day of January 1964.

(House Bill 495)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 92 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Wicomico County (1959 Edition,
being Article 23 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland),
title "Wicomico County," subtitle "Fire Companies," relating to
the sum to be paid annually to the several Volunteer Fire Com-
panies in Wicomico County and to the City of Salisbury.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 92 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Wicomico Coun-
ty (1959 Edition, being Article 23 of the Code of Public Local Laws
of Maryland), title "Wicomico County," subtitle "Fire Companies,"
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

92. Appropriations; conditions.

The County Commissioners of Wicomico County are hereby author-
ized to appropriate and levy annually the sum of [Twenty Two Thou-
sand Dollars ($22,000.00),] Three Thousand Dollars ($3,000.00), to
be paid to each of the several Volunteer Fire Companies in said
County, [in such amount or amounts as the said County Commis-
sioners, in their discretion, shall determine,] and to be used for the
general maintenance of said Volunteer Fire Companies in said
County, including the purchase and repairing of fire apparatus and all
other equipment of every kind and character; provided, however, that
no payments shall be made to any company or department which has
any resolutions or regulations limiting the territory within which it
will respond to calls. Each Volunteer Fire Company receiving any of
the above funds shall submit an annual report to said County Com-
missioners, giving a detailed statement of the expenditures of said
fund or funds, and no payment shall be made to any Volunteer Fire
Company until it shall have submitted [each] such report showing
the expenditures of said fund for the preceding year. Any newly
organized volunteer fire company in said county shall receive such
appropriation only upon the written recommendation of the fire
marshal of said county.

Said county commissioners are further authorized to appropriate
and levy annually the sum of fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000.00)
to be paid to the City of Salisbury to be used for the support of the
fire companies in said city.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.
