(g) Commencing with the beginning of the next term of office, the
Sheriff of Cecil County shall receive an annual salary of [$5,500]
$6,500 and no allowance for expenses except as hereinafter provided.
[The Sheriff shall appoint four deputy sheriffs. The salary of the
first deputy sheriff shall be $4,500 annually and the salary of the
other deputy sheriffs shall be $4,300 annually.] The Sheriff shall ap-
point six deputy sheriffs one of whom he shall name as Chief Deputy
and one of whom he shall name as Inspector. The salary of the Chief
Deputy and the Inspector shall be $4,500.00 each annually with an-
nual increments, subject to approval of the Sheriff of $200.00, sub-
ject to a maximum annual salary of $5,500. The remaining four
deputies, shall receive annual salaries of $4,000.00 each with annual
increments, subject to the approval of the Sheriff of $200.00, sub-
ject to a maximum annual salary of $5,000.00. The deputy sheriffs
shall perform all the duties heretofore performed by the constables
to the trial magistrates' courts of Cecil County. From and after July
1,1963, any references to constables, as applied to Cecil County, in
any law shall be construed to apply to deputy sheriffs. The Sheriff
and deputy sheriffs shall be entitled to an expense allowance for trav-
el at the rate of seven cents ($0.7) per mile actually traveled, to be
paid monthly, provided, that at the beginning of each month the
Sheriff and deputy sheriffs shall file with the County Commissioners
of Cecil County an affidavit stating the speedometer readings on
their respective vehicles as of the first and last days of the preceed-
ing month, and provided further, that fifteen per centum of the mile-
age submitted for each month shall be deemed to have been for per-
sonal use for which there shall be no compensation. The Sheriff's
office shall also receive an appropriation of $1,500, to be used for
special investigations and employees, subject to the approval of the
County Commissioners.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 293 of
Article 93 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1962 Supplement),
title "Testamentary Law," subtitle "Register of Wills," repealing
a provision concerning the hours during which the register of
wills of Howard County shall attend his office.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 293 of Article 93 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1962 Supplement), title "Testamentary Law," subtitle "Register
of Wills," be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
