J. MILLARD TAWES, Governor                      2179

VETOES

TITLES AND MESSAGES

for the
BILLS VETOED

by the
Governor of Maryland

following the
1963 Regular Session

of the
General Assembly of Maryland

NOTE

Thirty-seven bills were vetoed by the Governor of Maryland follow-
ing the 1963 Regular Session of the General Assembly. Fourteen of
the vetoed bills originated in the Senate, and twenty-three were House
Bills.

In addition, several items were vetoed in Senate Bill 139, the Bond
Construction Bill, under the Governor's item veto power for such
bills which is covered in Section 17 of Article 2 of the Constitution of
Maryland.

Following other provisions in the same section of the Constitution,
all such vetoed bills (as well as the vetoed items in Senate Bill 139)
must be referred to the House in which they originated immediately
after the House shall have organized at the next regular or special
session of the General Assembly of Maryland, for reconsideration.

A three-fifths vote of the members elected to each House is required
to enact a bill (or item) over the veto of the Governor.
