J. MILLARD TAWES, Governor                     2143

Whereas, it is believed that the Cheasapeake Bay Bridge has al-
ready proven to be a well paying investment both for the State of
Maryland and the Bond holders; and

Whereas, The creation of a new round-trip rate would stimulate
business and use of the bridge and very likely would create more reve-
nue than would be lost; and

Whereas, The establishment of this rate by the State Roads
Commission would be of very definite value to the people of the en-
tire State; now therefore be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the State
Roads Commission be requested to consider the establishment of a
24-hour two-way toll charge on the Chesapeake Bay Bridge so de-
signed that a person travelling both ways on the bridge within any
24-hour period would be charged only a single one-way passage; and
be it further

Resolved, That the Secretary of the State be instructed to send a
copy of this Resolution to the State Roads Commission.

Approved May 6, 1963.

No. 31
(House Joint Resolution 56)

House Joint Resolution requesting the Department of Tidewater
Fisheries to use any monies available to it for the control of
Eurasian water milfoil in the waters of the State of Maryland.

Whereas, Since 1959 certain of the waters of the State of Mary-
land have been infested with the Eurasian water milfoil, Myriophyl-
lum spicatum, which has since then spread from the tributaries of
the Potomac River to most of the tributaries of the river, to the
Susquehanna Flats and to other tributaries of the upper Chesapeake
Bay, and

Whereas, Measures for control of this pest have been found to be
either expensive or a menace to fish and other aquatic life, and

Whereas, It is imperative to prevent the complete choking of
certain waters of the State that the State expend all funds available
to it to obtain control of water milfoil, now therefore be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Depart-
ment of Tidewater Fisheries is urged to expend, in cooperation with
other State departments, whatever funds are available to it for
the control of the Eurasian water milfoil, and be it further

Resolved, That a copy of this resolution is sent to the Director of
the Department of Tidewater Fisheries.

Approved May 6, 1963.
