Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
January 1, 1964.

CHAPTER 590
(Senate Bill 424)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 19(5) of
Article 56 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1962 Supple-
ment), title "Licenses", sub-title "Pinball Machines and Console
Machines", repealing as to Wicomico County AND AT DIFFER-
ENT TIMES the authority for the licensing and operation of cer-
tain free play pinball machines and free play console machines,
and relating generally to the terms and conditions under which
PROVIDING THAT such machines are hereafter illegal in Wi-
comico County. , AND FURTHER PROVIDING THAT CER-
TAIN AMUSEMENT DEVICES IN WICOMICO COUNTY MAY
LEGALLY BE LICENSED AND OPERATED AND FOR THE
MANNER AND CONDITIONS OF SUCH LICENSING AND
OPERATION.

Whereas, By Chapter 366 of the Acts of 1959 the Maryland Gen-
eral Assembly provided for the licensing and regulation of pinball
machines and console machines in Wicomico County; and

Whereas, the Sheriff of Wicomico County, the Chief of Police
for the City of Salisbury and the State's Attorney for Wicomico
County have issued a signed statement to the press, radio and
television media of Wicomico County stating that it is their feeling
that the passage of the bill four years ago has greatly hampered the
enforcement of the anti-gambling statutes in that evidence of pay-
offs for "free games" is almost short of impossible to obtain; and

Whereas, the Sheriff and State's Attorney of Wicomico County
and the Chief of Police of Salisbury have recommended to the
legislative delegation in Annapolis that legislation be introduced for
the complete abolition of pinball machines and console machines in
that County; now, therefore AND

WHEREAS, THERE ARE SOME AMUSEMENT DEVICES IN
THE COUNTY WHICH ARE NOT CONSIDERED GAMBLING
DEVICES AND WHICH MAY BE ALLOWED; NOW THERE-
FORE

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 19(5) of Article 56 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1962 Supplement), title "Licenses", sub-title "Pinball Machines and
Console Machines", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

Talbot, Baltimore, and Harford [and Wicomico] counties and Balti-
