title "Title 7. Courts, Fines, Forfeitures and Imprisonment",
subheading "Article IV. Juries", to remove a limitation on the
number of petit juries that may serve at any time in Baltimore
County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 7-79 of the Baltimore County Code—1958 (being Ar-
ticle 3 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Balti-
more County", sub-title "Title 7. Courts, Fines, Forfeitures and
Imprisonment", subheading "Article IV. Juries", be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

7-79.

Any petit jury chosen for a particular term of court shall serve
for four weeks; provided, however, that the circuit court for the
county may extend or reduce that term of service of any particular
jury as in its discretion deems advisable. [No more than three petit
juries may serve simultaneously at any particular time.]

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1963.

CHAPTER 589
(Senate Bill 356)

AN ACT to add new Article 43A to the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), to follow immediately after Article 43 thereof and
to be entitled "Maryland Higher Education Loan Program", to
create the Maryland Higher Education Loan Corporation, to pro-
vide for its powers and duties, and to provide for the loan of funds
to persons to assist them in meeting the expenses of higher educa-
tion and relating generally to higher education in the State.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Article 43A be and it is hereby added to the Annotated
Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), to follow immediately after
Article 43 thereof, to be entitled "Maryland Higher Education Loan
Program", and to read as follows:

Maryland Higher Education Loan Program

1.    There is hereby created a nonprofit corporation which shall be
known as the "Maryland Higher Education Loan Corporation".

2.    The purpose of the corporation shall be to improve the higher
educational opportunities of persons who are residents of this state,
and who are attending or plan to attend colleges in this state or else-
where, by lending funds to such persons or guaranteeing the loan of
funds to such persons to assist them in meeting their expenses of
higher education, in accordance with the provisions of this article.
