by Joshua George his Attorney and prayeth that the afd Edward
to the Indictment afd may Answer            And the afd Richard
in his proper person comes and defends the force & injury
when &c And saith that he is in no Sort guilty of the premisses
afd Above upon him Imposed as by the afd Indictment it
is Alledged and thereof he puts himself upon the Country &ca
And he who fol. for the Lord propry in like manner saith
he is guilty &c            J George pr Ld propry
Thereupon Command was given to the sher. of Kent County
that he Immediately cause to come ehre twelve &c by whom &ca.
who neither &c to recognize &c because as well &c of which said
precept the said sher. to wit Simon Wilmer Gent now here
at this day to wit the twentyeth day of March Anno Dom. One
thousand seven hundred thirty & eight makes return that
he hath here ready twelve &c as by his precept he was
Commanded And now here afterwards to wit the day
and year last mentioned Come again the afd Lord propry by
his Attry afd and the afd Richd Edwards in his proper
person and the Jurors of that Jury being Impannelled &
called likewise came to wit John Tilden, John Wallis,
William Commegys Thomas Bordley Theophelus Randal
Thomas Ayres, Thomas Pryer, Francis Meeks, Thos.
Lewis Edward Cowarden, Wm. Graves, Wm. Hodges, Who
being duly Elected tried and Sworn to say the truth in the
premisses the afd Richd. the prison Appearing And the
afd Jurors upon their Oath do say that the afd Richard the
prisoner at the Barr is guilty as he stands Indicted and
by John Tilden their foremn. all so say &c Therefore it
is Considered by the Justices here to wit at Kent County Court
at the Court house in the Town of Chester in said County on
the third tuesday of March being the twentyeth day of sd.
month in the year of Our Lord God One thousand seven
hundred and thirty Eight that the afd Richard shall
stand in and upon the Pilliray for the Space of half an
hour And shall be whipped at the publick whiping post
in the same County with twenty five lashes upon the
Bare Back and the Blood to Appear And it is Commd.
