The said bill was then sent to the Senate.
The bill entitled, an act to empower the fire inspector, com-
missioned by the Mayor of the city of Baltimore, under an
ordinance of the Mayor and City Council of Baltimore, to
issue summons for the attendance of witnesses to testify before
him as to the origin and cause of fires occurring in the city
of Baltimore, and in case of refusal of witnesses to attend, or
after attendance, refusing to testify, to authorise any justice
of the peace of the State of Maryland, in and for the city of
Baltimore, or any one of the judges of any of the courts for
the city of Baltimore, upon the application of the fire inspec-
tor, to impose a fine upon such person or persons so refusing,
and authorising said justice of the peace, or judge, to commit
to prison until fine and cost be paid;
