308             JOURNAL OF PROCEEDINGS [Feb. 9,

Which was read the first time, and referred to the Somer-
set county delegation.

Also, returned the preamble and resolutions offered by Mr,
Grieves, in relation to the Governor's Message, which passed
the House on Friday, January 22d;

Endorsed "passed by yeas and nays."
On motion of Mr. Grieves,

The House adjourned.

WEDNESDAY, February 10, 1858.

The House met, and was opened with prayer by the Rev.
Mr. Graff.

Present at the call of the roll, the following members:

Messrs. Berry, Sp'r, Neale, Wickes, Tongue, Mackubin,
Griffiss, Magruder, Burgess, Stone street, Walker, Allender,
Ford, of Balt. county, Lynch, of Balt. county, Clarke, Golds-
borough, Waller, Moore, Tilghman, Dail, Richardson, Grieves,
Davis, Ford, of Cecil, Kidd, Belt, Wyville, Larrimore,
Landing, Harding, Bowlus, Root, Koons, Hobbs, Hanway,
Bacon, Baker, McGonigal, Stirling, Rogers, McPherson,
Smith, of Baltimore city, Kennard, Lynch, of Baltimore city,
Harrington, Crowley, Forrest, Alexander, Rohrer, Duvall,
Worthington, Thruston, Kilgour, Barnard, Mountz, McKin-
stry, Day, Welling and Dorsey.

The proceedings of yesterday were read.

Mr. Kidd presented a petition from Jackson McCullough,
Thomas P. Wollaston, A. B. McVey, and 98 other citizens of
Cecil county, in favor of the passage of an act establishing a
uniform system of Common Schools in Maryland ;

Which was referred to the committee on Education.

Mr. Wickes presented a petition from Jesse Wilson, Robert
Rouse, and twenty-two others, for a new School District in
Kent county ;

Which was referred to the Kent county delegation.

Mr. Kilgour presented a petition from one hundred and
