Mr. Magruder proposed the following message:
By the House of Delegates,
February 4th, 1858.
Gentlemen of the Senate:
We have received your message proposing the appointment
of a joint committee to inquire into the expediency of con-
structing a fire proof building for the records of the State; of
increasing the size of the Hall of the House of Delegates, of
adding committee rooms, and of lighting the State House
with gas and warming it with furnaces; and proposing that
the committee shall report at this session of the General As-
sembly. We concur therein, and have appointed Messrs.
Magruder, Contee and Crowley, as such committee on the
part of the House.

The bill entitled, an act to amend an act entitled, an act
incorporating the Maryland Institute for the promotion of the
Mechanic Arts, passed December session, 1849, chapter 114;

ment."
