The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following bill:

The bill entitled, an act concerning the Chesapeake and
Ohio Canal company;

Which was read the first time and referred to the commit-
tee on Corporations.

The House then took up for consideration the bill entitled,
an act to amend the 00th, 61st, 62d, 63d, 64th, 65th, 66th,
67th, 68th and 69th sections of article 55th of the code of
public general laws, relating to licenses for the sale of spiritu-
ous liquors by retailers, and to amend the 86th, 87th, 88th,
89th, 90th, 91st, 92d, 93d and 94th sections of article 55th
of the code of public general laws, relating to licenses to
oyster and eating houses;

Said being on its second reading,

Mr. Denison, of Baltimore city, proposed the following
amendment:

Amend section 3d by striking out the word "five" on line
two.

Which was not rejected.

Also, the following amendment:

Amend section 4th by striking out the word "fifty" on line
two, and inserting the word "forty;"

Which was rejected.

Mr. Coudy proposed the following amendment:
Strike out section 11th and insert "license shall be granted
to sell spiritous and fermented liquors or lager beer in quan-
tities less than a pint for the sum of eighteen dollars, when
the applicant's stock and trade do not or will not exceed
five hundred dollars."

Which was rejected.

Mr. Turner, of Baltimore city, proposed the following
amendment:

Section 11. Strike out on line 3d "eighteen dollars," and
add "one hundred dollars."

Which was rejected.
