A bill entitled, an act to compensate Otho Scott and Hiram
McCullough, codifiers, under the acts of January session,
1852 and 1853;
Severally endorsed "passed by yeas and nays."
The hour having arrived for taking up the order of the
day,
The House took up for consideration the bill entitled, an
act to repeal the 1st, 2d, 3d, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th,
10th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th, 18th,
19th and 20th sections of the 19th article of the code of pub-
lic general laws, which provides for the appointment of a
board of managers to remove from this State, free people of
color, and prescribing their powers and duties, and appropri-
ating funds for that purpose;
Said bill being upon its second reading,
Mr. Holland called for the reading of all the bills reported,
relative thereto, for the information of the House.
Mr. Briscoe proposed to amend, by striking out after the
word "the," in the 2d line, the words "1st, 2d, 4th, 5th, 6th,
7th, 8th, 9th, 10th. 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th, 16th, 17th,
18th, 19th and 20th;"
Mr. Jacobs called for the yeas and nays, which appeared
