COLORED POPULATION—

                  A bill reported entitled an act to prevent free

negroes and slaves having and using boats on the

Potomac river, 471; bill passed and sent to the Sen-

ate, 812.

Order adopted that the committee on, be requested
to inquire into the expediency of the passage of a
law to sell the free and slave negroes now confined
in the Maryland Penitentiary, out of the State; the
slaves for life, and the free ones for the terra they
have to serve, the proceeds of the slaves to go to the
counties from whence they came, and the free ones
into the treasury of the State, 618.

negroes and mulattoes, slaves and free, who are con-
victed and confined In the Maryland Penitentiary,
