sion 1854, chapter 262, entitled, an act imposing a tax on dogs,
to protect the raising of sheep in Kent county.

A bill entitled, an act to allow Walter Mitchell former Clerk of
Charles county court, further time to complete his collections;

Severally endorsed "passed by yeas and nays."
Also returned the following bills rejected:

A bill entitled, an act for the relief of Thomas Warfield and
his wife and children, free negroes of the District of Columbia.

A bill entitled, an act for the relief of Ellen White, generally
know as Ellen Savoy, a free negro woman of Philadelphia, in
the State of Pennsylvania.             

A bill entitled, an act for amending proceedings in the land
office.

A bill entitled, an act authorizing the compromise of assaults
and batteries and supplementary to the act of 1831, chapter 208.

And delivered,

A bill entitled, an act granting the leave of the Legislature to
the devise and bequest made by Levi Hilleary late of Allegany
county, deceased, to the vestry of Emanuel Parish, and also to
the devise and bequest made by the said testator to John Hays in
trust as declared in the will of said testator;

Which was read the first tinge and referred to Messrs. Wickes,
Kildow, and Tower.                                      

Also, a bill entitled, an act relating to the establishment of a light
house on Drum Point at the mouth of the Patuxent river, in Cal-
vert county, and to cede to the United States the jurisdiction of
the State of Maryland, in, to, and over a site for the same;

Endorsed "passed by yeas and nays" with the proposed

amendment:                                         

Amendment Proposed.

At the end of 2nd section add: "Reserving nevertheless to the
State of Maryland concurrent jurisdiction over the said lot or par-
cel of ground, so far as may be necessary to authorize the service
thereon of all process issued by any court or office of the State,
and the punishment by said State of crimes thereon committed;

Which was assented to by yeas and nays as follows:
