Mr. Witmer presented a petition from Jos. D. Price and 51
other citizens of Washington county, remonstrating against the
passage of a law exempting the Maryland and Virginia Bridge in
said county;                                                               

Which was referred to the committee on Ways and Means.

Mr. Rowles presented a petition of 28 citizens of the 2nd elec-
tion of Howard county against an additional Primary School dis-

trict;

Which was referred to the Howard delegation.

Mr. Plowden presented a petition of 52 citizens of St. Mary's
county, praying the passage of an act creating a new election dis-
trict in said county;                                     

Which was referred to the St. Mary's delegation.

Mr. Neff presented the petition of Francis Brashears and oth-
ers, in favor of dredging for oysters by citizens of Anne Arundel
county.

Also, of Robert Gale and others, against dredging for oysters
in Anne Arundel county;

Which were Severally referred to the Anne Arundel delega-
tion.

Mr. Stone presented a petition of W. A. Posey, to be paid a
sum of money stolen from Capt. Posey, and paid by him to the
company under his command during the revolutionary war;

Which was referred to the Committee on Claims.

Mr. Silver presented a petition of Thomas C. Stump, Joseph
H. Jarrett, George P. Cook and 150 other citizens of Harford
county for the protection of women in convents;                   

Which was referred to the committee on that subjects.

         

Mr. Wolfe presented the petition of James Perre, David Du-
derar, and 400 other citizens of Frederick county, and Miss
Duderar and Miss N. Jane Buckingham and 25 other ladies of
the same county, for the better protection of young ladies in con-
vents and nunneries;                               

Which was referred to the committee on that subject.

The Speaker laid before the House the following communica-
tion:
