Mr. Davis from the select committee reported favorably on a
bill entitled, an act authorizing the county commissioners of Fred-
erick county to remove from the assessment of said county an
absconding negro man, a slave for life, now assessed to Thomas
J. Griffith.

Mr. Smith, of Carroll, from the select committee reported a
bill entitled, an act in favor of defendants to suits before justices of
the pence of Carroll county;

Was read the first time.

Mr. Dowell from the select committee reported a bill entitled,
an act to authorize Capt. Lewis Griffith, of Calvert county, to
build a wharf at Lyon's Creek Landing, on the Patuxent river,
and to charge wharfage for the same;

Was read the first time.

And a bill entitled, an act to authorize the clerk of the circuit
court of Calvert county, to make and keep up from year to year,
the general index of the said records of his office;

Was read the first time.                                           

Mr. Partridge, from the committee on Judiciary, reported favor-
ably on a bill entitled, an act to incorporate the Gilmor House
Company;

Mr. Scott reported a bill entitled, an act to aid, in the construc-
tion of a Rail Road in Cecil county;

Was read the first time, and referred to the committee on ways
and means.

Mr. Toadvine reported a bill entitled, an act for the purpose of
aiding in the construction of a Rail Road in Somerset county,
being a supplement to an act entitled, an act for the promotion of
Internal Improvements, passed at December session 1835, chap-
ter 395;

Which was read the first time, and referred to the Committee
on Internal Improvements.                                           

Mr. Smith, of Worcester county, from the select committee re-
ported a bill entitled, an act for the purpose of aiding in the con-
struction of a Rail Road in Worcester county, being a supplement
to an act entitled, an act for the promotion of Internal Improve-
ments, passed at December session 1835, chapter 396;

Which was read the first time, and referred to the committee on
Ways and Means.

Mr. Daniel from the select committee reported a bill entitled,
an act authorizing the purchase of copies of Dunlop's Digest of
