The hour having arrived for taking up the order of the day:

The house proceeded to the consideration of the following Re-
solution :

Resolved, That on and after Tuesday next, the 26th instant,
bills entitled to a third reading shall be taken up at half past one
o'clock, in preference to, and to the exclusion of any other busi-
ness before the House.                          

Mr. Partridge moved to strike out "half past one," and insert
one;"                                                   

Which was determined in the affirmative;

The Resolution as amended was then adopted.

The order of the day being the Resolution for the appointment,
of a committee to examine and destroy cancelled bonds and cou-
pons ;                                                                         

On motion of Mr. Hall,
The said Resolution was informally laid over.

The order of the day being,

A bill entitled, an act to regulate and restrict the granting of
licenses to retail intoxicating liquors in this State;

The further consideration of the bill was postponed until to-
morrow.                                                         

The order of the day being,

The bill entitled, an act for the establishment of a uniform sys-
tem of public education in the State of Maryland;

Mr. Rankin moved to strike out "and mileage at the rate of
five cents per mile," at the end of section 12, article 2nd ;

Mr. Hall moved to strike out, in the 3rd line of section 12, ar-
ticle 2nd, the words "the performance of duties," and insert
"their attendance upon the general meetings of the board ;"

Mr. Rankin accepted said motion as a substitute;               

Mr. Harris moved the following amendment:
