The Secretary of the Senate delivered the following message:
By the Senate,
February 6th, 1856.
Gentlemen of the House of Delegates :
The term of service to which the Hon. Thomas G. Pratt, has
been elected as one of the Senators to represent this State in the
Senate of the United States will expire oh the third day of March
eighteen hundred and fifty-seven. As it is incumbent on the
Legislature during the present session to supply the vacancy
which will at that time occur, we propose with the concurrence
of your Honorable Body to proceed to the discharge of that duty
on Thursday the 14th instant, at 12 o'clock, M., agreeably to
the Constitution of the United States, and the act of Assembly
of this State, entitled an act to fix the mode of electing Senators
to represent this State in the Senate of the United States.

By the House of Delegates,

Gentlemen of the Senate:
We have received the message from your Honorable Body,
proposing to proceed, on Thursday at noon the 14th instant, to
the election of a Senator to represent this State in the Senate of
the United States, in place of the Honorable Thomas G. Pratt,
whose term of service will expire on the third day of March,
eighteen hundred and fifty seven and concur therein.
