SUBJECT: SHERIFF—HOWARD COUNTY.

Amendment proposed by the House: "Strike out all after
the words 'a Bill' and insert in lieu thereof the following:
'entitled an Act to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Sec-
tion 124 of Article 14 of the Code of Public Local Laws, title
"Howard County, " sub-title "Sheriff, " as said section was en-
acted by Chapter 14 of the Acts of 1910.
'Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of
Maryland, That Section 124 of Article 14 of the Code of Pub-
lic Local Laws, title "Howard County, " sub-title "Sheriff, " as
said section was enacted by Chapter 14 of the Acts of 1910,
be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted so as to
read as follows:
'124. Sheriff of Howard county shall receive an annual
salary of fifteen hundred dollars from and after the first day
of May, 1908, to be paid him in quarterly installments of
three hundred and seventy-five dollars by the County Com-
missioners of Howard county, and the said County Commis-
sioners shall pay to the sheriff, upon the presentation of
proper vouchers, the actual car fare or team hire incurred
by the sheriff or his deputies in conducting any prisoner to
any institution to which he has been committed by the proper
tribunal, and he shall appoint six deputies—one from each
of the six election districts of Howard county—and the County
Commissioners of Howard county shall pay said deputies an
annual salary of one hundred dollars each, to be paid in quar-
terly installments of twenty-five dollars. He shall collect all
fees and charges to which he may be entitled by law, and exer-
cise all powers conferred upon him by law to enforce the col-
