State Government for the fiscal year beginning with the first
day of October, 1916, and ending with the thirtieth day of
September, 1917, the following sums of money, or so much
thereof as may be necessary, be and the same are hereby appro-
priated, that is to say:
'For State Officers—For the salary of the Governor, four thou-
sand five hundred dollars; for the salary of the Secretary of
State, two thousand dollars; for the salary of the Chief Clerk to
the Governor, twenty-four hundred dollars; for the salary of one
clerk to the Governor, two thousand dollars; for the salaries
of two clerks to the Governor, fifteen hundred dollars each,
three thousand dollars; for the salary of the stenographer
to the Governor, twelve hundred dollars; for the salary of the
messenger to the Governor, eleven hundred dollars; for the
salary of the Comptroller of the Treasury, twenty-five hun-
dred dollars; for the salary of the Chief Clerk to the Comp-
troller, twenty f our hundred dollars; for the salary of one
assistant clerk to the Comptroller, two thousand dollars; for
the salaries of two assistant clerks to the Comptroller, seven-
teen hundred and fifty dollars each, thirty-five hundred dol-
lars; for the salaries of two assistant clerks to the Comp-
troller, fifteen hundred dollars each, three thousand dollars;
for the salary of one clerk to the Comptroller, twelve hundred
dollars; for the salary of stenographer to the Comptroller,
twelve hundred dollars; for the salary of the Treasurer of
the State, two thousand five hundred dollars; for the salary
of Chief Clerk to the Treasurer, twenty-four hundred dollars;
for the salary of one assistant clerk to the Treasurer, twenty-
two hundred dollars; for the salaries of three assistant clerks
to the Treasurer, fifteen hundred dollars each, forty-five hun-
dred dollars; for the salary of one messenger to the Treasurer,
one thousand dollars; for the salary of the State Librarian,
fifteen hundred dollars; for the salary of the Indexer and
cataloguer, fifteen hundred dollars; for the salary of the cus-
todian of works of reference, twelve hundred dollars; for the
salary of the Commissioner of the Land Office, fifteen hundred
dollars; special duties of the Commissioner of the Land Office
in connection with the keeping of maps, books, records and
papers connected with the office of the Board of Shell Fish
Commissioners, as provided in Section 16, Article 54 of the
Annotated Code of Public General Laws of Maryland, six hun-
dred dollars; for the salary of the Chief Clerk to the Commis-
sioner of the Land Office, two thousand dollars; for the salaries
of two assistant clerks to the Commissioner of the Land Office,
thirteen hundred dollars each, twenty-six hundred dollars; for
