AN ACT to add a new section to Article 26 of the Annotated Code
of Maryland (1957 Edition), title "Courts", to be under a new
subtitle to be known as "Municipal Court of Baltimore City", said
new section to be known as Section 107, providing generally that
the terms "Justice of the Peace", "Traffic Magistrate", and other
similar expressions, as used in the Public Local Laws of Baltimore
City and in Acts of the General Assembly of Maryland, in a
context relating to Baltimore City, shall be construed as apply-
ing to the Municipal Court of Baltimore City, providing that the
Judges of said Municipal Court shall have, possess and exercise
all the powers and duties of Justices of the Peace and Magistrates
of Baltimore City providing that the Bill shall be an emergency
Act and that it shall expire upon the taking effect of Chapter 616
of the Acts of 1961 (Senate Bill 341 or House Bill 423).
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That a new Section be and it is hereby added to Article 26 of the
Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), Title "Courts", to be
under a new subtitle headed, "Municipal Court of Baltimore City",
to follow immediately after Section 106, said new Section to read
as follows:

Wherever the terms Justice of the Peace, Trial Magistrate, Police
Magistrate, Justices of the Peace assigned to the station houses,
Traffic Court Magistrate or other similar expressions may be used
in any Public Local Law of Baltimore City, or in any Act of the
General Assembly of Maryland, in a context relating to, or including,
Baltimore City, said terms shall be construed as including the Munic-
ipal Court of Baltimore City.
The Municipal Court of Baltimore City and the judges thereof shall
have, possess and exercise all the powers and duties that were vested
in or conferred upon the Justices of the Peace of Baltimore City, in-
cluding the Police Magistrates, the Chief Police Magistrate of Balti-
more City, the Magistrates at Large of Baltimore City on the day
immediately preceding the first Monday of May, 1961.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall be declared
to be an emergency measure and necessary for the immediate pres-
ervation of the public health and safety, and having been passed by
a yea and nay vote, supported by three-fifths of all the members
elected to each of the two Houses of the General Assembly of Mary-
land, the same shall take effect on May 1, 1961, and shall expire
upon the taking effect of Chapter 616 of the Acts of 1961 (Senate
Bill 341 or House Bill 423).
