CHAPTER 357
(Senate Bill 93)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 67 (b) of
Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Elections", sub-title "Nomination by Petition", revising the
formula for the number of voters required to sign petitions for
candidates for public office in Baltimore City who are not candi-
dates of a party, and generally relating thereto.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 67 (b) of Article 33 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Elections", sub-title "Nomination by Petition",
be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to
read as follows:

67.

(b) Petition in general.—A certificate of nomination containing
the name of a candidate for office shall be filed as specified in Sec-
tion 55 with such information as is required to be given in the cer-
tificate provided for in Section 60 of this article, with the additional
statement that the persons signing the same intend to vote for the
person nominated thereby. Said petition shall be signed by not less
than 5,000 voters when the nomination is for an office to be filled by
an election participated in by the voters of the entire State; not less
than 1,500 when the nomination is for an office to be filled by an
election to be participated in by the voters of an entire congressional
district [or] and not less than 10,000 7,500 when the nomination is
for an office to be filled by an election participated in by the voters
of
the City of Baltimore except that not less than 1,500 7,500 is required
in case the candidate for nomination has been registered as a declined
voter for five (5) years prior to the election;
not less than 750 when
the nomination is for an office to be filled by an election to be partici-
pated in by the voters of any legislative district of Baltimore City,
Allegany County, Anne Arundel County, Baltimore County, Freder-
ick County, Harford County, Howard County, Montgomery County,
Prince George's County and Washington County; and not less than
500 for nominations for all other elections. The petition for nomina-
tion shall be filed at least fifteen days prior to the date set by law
for the primary election.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
