CHAPTER 226
(Senate Bill 346)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 202C of
the Code of Public Local Laws of Washington County (1957
Edition, being Article 22 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Mary-
land), title "Washington County", sub-title "County Commis-
sioners", as added by Chapter 404 of 1959, to change the duration
of terms of the members of the Economic Development Commis-
sion of Washington County, and relating to reappointment of
members and the chairman of the Commission.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 202C of the Code of Public Local Laws of Washington
County (1957 Edition, being Article 22 of the Code of Public Local
Laws of Maryland), title "Washington County", sub-title "County
Commissioners", as added by Chapter 404 of 1959, be and it is hereby
repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as follows:

202C.

[The members of the Commission shall serve for two years from
the effective date of this legislation and are eligible for reappoint-
ment.] Of the members first appointed to the Commission for terms
of two years the terms of at least one-third of the members shall be
extended for one additional year; the terms of at least one-third of
the members shall be extended for an additional two years; and the
terms of at least one-third of the members shall be extended for an
additional three years. Thereafter all terms shall be for three years.
Any member of the Commission shall be eligible for not more than
two full terms in succession.
They shall serve without compensation
but shall be reimbursed for necessary travel and other expenses in-
curred in the performance of their duties. The Commission shall
select from its own membership a chairman, vice-chairman, and a
secretary-treasurer to serve a term of one year and to be eligible for
re-election provided that no one person shall hold the position of chair-
man for more than three consecutive [terms] years. Upon the death,
disability, resignation, or removal of any member of the Commission,
the County Commissioners shall appoint a person representing the
same categoric interest to serve for the unexpired term. The State
Senator for Washington County and the President of the Board of
County Commissioners shall serve as ex-officio members of the Eco-
nomic Development Commission without the power to vote. The
Commission has the power to establish and appoint advisory groups
and committees to assist in its program of activity of which mem-
bership is not restricted solely to members of the Commission.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
