levy from year to year for sufficient funds to pay the salaries and
expenses hereinbefore provided for.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
shall not be construed to extend or apply to the Sheriff in office on
the effective date hereof, but shall be effective with the next term of
office.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1,1961.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 37 (1)
of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1960 Supple-
ment), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and Duties", to
increase the salary of the Sheriff of Harford County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (1) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1960 Supplement), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation
and Duties", be and is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:

37. (1)

The Sheriff of Harford County shall receive an annual salary of
[$6,000] $8,500. He shall appoint such deputies and at such com-
pensation as may be provided by the County Commissioners of said
county.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act
shall not be construed to extend or apply to the Sheriff in office on
the effective date hereof, but they shall take effect with the next
term of office.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
