J. MILLARD TAWES, GOVERNOR                             1721

No. 22

(Senate Joint Resolution 11)

Senate Joint Resolution requesting the appointment of a Commission
to study the establishment of a State system of insuring deposits
of Savings and Loan Associations in the State.

The State of Maryland is presently scrutinizing its admittedly in-
adequate laws applicable to the savings and loan business in the State
and is now preparing legislation to provide adequate and complete

regulation of all phases of the savings and loan business.

The State does not now provide any State system of insuring the
deposits of associations, and there are many savings and loan
associations in the State which are not Federally chartered or
whose deposits are not guaranteed by the Federal government.

None of the proposed regulatory legislation for the savings and
loan business provides for insurance of the deposits of associations,
and it is MAY BE desirable that the State lend its support to a
system of insuring deposits, as many other States have provided;
Now, therefore, be it

Resolved by the General Assembly of Maryland, That the Governor
of Maryland is requested to appoint a Commission to stduy STUDY
the establishment of a State system of insuring the deposits of savings
and loan associations in the State; and be it further

Resolved, That the Commission shall report to the 1962 Session
of the General Assembly.

Approved May 3, 1961.

mission appointed to study matters relating to passenger carrier
facilities in the Washington metropolitan area.

Whereas, Pursuant to the provisions of Joint Resolution No. 12
of 1954, there was appointed a Commission to study matter relating
to passenger carrier facilities in the Washington metropolitan area;
and

Whereas, The Maryland members of this Commission at the
present time are Senator Edward S. Northrop, Delegate Carlton R.
Sickles and Mr. Albert Sklar; and
