may require. The members of the county boards of education shall
receive no salary, but each member shall receive the sum of one
hundred dollars annually for traveling and other expenses incident
to attending the meetings and transacting the business of the board
within the county; provided, however, that in Howard [County]
and Somerset counties each member of the Board of Education shall
receive annually the sum of two hundred dollars for such traveling
and other expenses. In Charles County, each member of the County
Board of Education shall receive compensation at the rate of two
hundred fifty dollars annually, and in Allegany County each member
of the Board of Education shall receive not more than two hundred
dollars annually for such traveling and other expenses. In St. Mary's
County each member of the Board of Education shall receive the
sum of $200.00 annually for such traveling and other expenses. In
Frederick County each member of the Board of Education shall
receive the sum of $300.00 annually for such traveling and other
expenses. In Worcester County each member of the Board of Edu-
cation shall receive the sum of $250.00 annually for such traveling
and other expenses.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.

(House Bill 197)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact with amendments Section 53 of
Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland, (1957 Edition),
title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Deputy Sheriffs", adding Allegany
County to the laws concerning members of certain fire companies
who may be appointed deputy sheriff in their respective political
sub-division.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 53 of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Maryland,
(1957 Edition), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Deputy Sheriffs", be and
hereby is repealed and re-enacted, with amendments, to read as
follows:
53.
The provisions of the foregoing sections in this subtitle shall only
apply to Allegany, Baltimore, Cecil and Washington counties, but the
powers conferred by virtue hereof upon members of fire companies
shall not apply or be exercised in incorporated cities, towns or villages
which maintain an organized or regular police force.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
