CHAPTER 124
(Senate Bill 142)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 279 of
Article 24 of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930
Edition), title "Worcester County", sub-title "Roads", said section
having been enacted by Chapter 221 of the Acts of 1957, removing
from the laws concerning public roads, bridges, drains, water
courses, public landings, culverts, curbs and gutters in Worcester
County, an obsolete reference to a private toll bridge projected
over a portion of Sinepuxent Bay.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 279 of Article 24 of the Code of Public Local Laws of
Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Worcester County", sub-title
"Roads", said section having been enacted by Chapter 221 of the
Acts of 1957, be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:
279. The County Commissioners of Worcester County shall have
control over the public roads, bridges, drains, water courses, public
landings, culverts and curbs and gutters along the same in Wor-
cester County, subject only to the existing rights and duties of the
State Roads Commission of Maryland, until Worcester County takes
over the construction, reconstruction and maintenance of its County
roads, pursuant to Article 89B, Section 173 of the Code of Public
General Laws of Maryland (1956 Supplement, as amended from time
to time), and thereafter the said County Roads Board for Wor-
cester County shall have control and shall regulate them [, provided
however, that said County Roads Board shall have no authority or
control over the private toll bridge now being constructed over Sine-
puxent Bay from a point near South Point to Assateague Island by
Assateague Island Bridge Corporation].
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1961.
