C H A P.
LXX.

Directories to
be erected.

XXXII. And be it enacted, That the faid prefident and directors fhall caufe to
be erected directories at proper and convenient fituations, to note to all conductors
or drivers of carriages on the turnpike roads aforefaid, that they fhall at all times
pafs on the left of each other, under the penalty of three dollars for every offence,
to be recovered and applied as aforefaid.

XXXIII. And be it enacted, That if the faid company fhall not proceed to
carry on faid work within three years after the paffing of this act, and fhall
not within twenty years thereafter complete the faid roads, according to the true
intent and meaning of this act, then, in either of thefe cafes, it fhall and may
be lawful for this ftate to refume all and fingular the rights, liberties and pri-
vileges, hereby granted to the company.

Additional

allowance.

C H A P. LXXI,
An ACT to make a temporary allowance to the chancellor, in ad-
dition to his falary as chancellor and judge of the land-office.

Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That the chancellor
of this ftate for the time being, as chancellor and judge of the land-office,
fhall be entitled to receive four hundred and fixty-fix dollars and fifty-
feven cents, in addition to the permanent falary fixed by law.

When to be
paid.

II. And be it enacted, That the faid fum fhall be paid at the fame time, and
in the fame manner, during the continuance of this act, as his permanent falary
is by law directed to be paid.

Duration.

III. This act to continue and be in force till the twentieth day of October,
eighteen hundred, and until the end of the next feffion of affembly that fhall
happen thereafter.

Preamble.

C H A P. LXXII.
A Further fupplement to an act to ftreighten and amend the public
roads in Harford county, and for other purpofes.

WHEREAS Abraham Jarrett and Hannah Crofmore have fet forth by
their petition to this general affembly, that they are much aggrieved
by the road leading from the Upper Crofs Roads to Benjamin Amofs's
mill, in faid county, as laid out by the commiffioners appointed under the act
to which this is a further fupplement, and praying a power may be vefted in the
levy court of faid county to appoint commiffioners to review the faid road ;
therefore,

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That the levy court
of Harford county be and they are hereby empowered and directed to appoint,
by warrant, five perfons, freeholders and refidents in faid county, to review the
above defcribed road, which faid perfons, fo appointed as aforefaid, fhall and
they are hereby directed and required, as foon as conveniently may be thereafter,
to meet, examine and review, the above defcribed road, as laid out, marked and
bounded as aforefaid, and if, upon fuch review, they, in their judgment, fhall
be of opinion that the above defcribed road, laid out as aforefaid, ought to be
altered, then they are hereby required to alter, lay out, furvey, mark and bound
the road aforefaid fo altered, and make return thereof agreeably to the directions
and regulations of the original act to which this is a further fupplement; and
the faid court, if they fhall approve the fame, thereupon fhall direct the faid
road, fo altered and laid out, to be cleared and amended in the fame manner as
is directed by the faid original act.

III. And be it enacted, That the perfons to be appointed tinder and in virtue
of this act fhall, before they proceed to exercife the powers hereby given, take
the oath prefcribed by the faid original act, and fhall have the fame allowance as
the commiffioners appointed under the act aforefaid for their actual fervices.
