C H A P.
XL.

feven hundred and ninety-fix, make over unto the faid John Carroll, John Afh-
ton and Robert Molyneux, a certain other piece of ground adjoining that above
mentioned: And whereas the faid John Carroll, John Afhton and Robert Moly-
neux, in order to give perpetuity to faid inftitution, have prayed this general af-
fembly that they may be enabled to convey faid lands to the corporation of the
Roman catholic clergymen, and their fucceffors, as a body politic: And whereas
the prayer of faid petition appears reafonable,

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That the faid John
Carroll, John Afhton and Robert Molyneux, or the furvivors of them, be au-
thorifed and empowered to execute a deed of gift, in the ufual form, to the faid
corporation of the Roman catholic clergymen, and their fucceffors, appointed
under the act, entitled, An act for fecuring certain eftates and property for the
fupport and ufes of minifters of the Roman catholic religion; and that upon the
execution of faid deed, the faid corporation of the Roman catholic clergy-
men, and their fucceffors, fhall be feized and poffeffed of faid ground, in as full
and ample manner, and of the fame eftate, title and intereft, in law and equity,
as the faid John Carroll, John Afhton and Robert Molyneux, now hold the
fame; and the faid property, and the rents, iffues and profits thereof, fhall, from
thenceforth, be tinder the fole control and management of the faid body politic,
and their fucceffors, fo as aforefaid appointed.

Corporation

III. And be it enacted, by the authority aforefaid, That the corporation of the
Roman catholic clergymen be authorifed, in behalf of the college of George-
town, to receive donations from perfons charitably difpofed, fufficient for the
maintenance and education of thirty fcholars, provided the annual amount or
product of fuch donations do not exceed, in any one year, the fum of four
thoufand dollars.

How to be
applied, &c.

IV. And be it further enacted, That all donations fo made fhall be applied
faithfully to the purpofes for which alone they are allowed to be received, and
not to any other ufes of the corporation of the Roman catholic clergymen; for
the afcertainment of which, the corporation aforefaid, when thereunto required
by the general affembly, fhall exhibit an account of all donations received by
them for the maintenance and education of fcholars, and of the ufes to which
they are applied.

C H A P. XLI.
A Supplement to the act, entitled. An act for erecting a bridge
over Patowmack river.

WHEREAS the directors of the George-town bridge company have fet
forth, by their petition to this general affembly, that it would pro-
mote the encouragement of agriculture and commerce to reduce the
tolls for paffing the bridge erected by them over the river Patowmack on wag-
gons and carts, which however cannot be done without injury to faid company,
unlefs they be allowed to increafe the tolls on other articles; which appearing
reafonable,

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That the George-
town bridge company be and they are hereby authorifed and empowered to charge
and receive tolls on all articles, except waggons and carts, paffing the bridge
erected by the faid company over the river Patowmack, not exceeding the rate of
ferriage for the like articles refpectively at George-town; provided neverthelefs,
that the toll on waggons and carts fhall not exceed two thirds of the rate of
ferriage at George-town; and provided alfo, that this act, nor any matter or
thing therein contained, fhall take effect, or be in force, until the affent of the
ftockholders in the faid bridge company fhall be given, and the fame notified
under the hands and feals of the directors for the time being to the governor and
council, to be lodged among their proceedings,
