CHAPTER 64
(Senate Bill 126)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 186 of
Article 56 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title
"Licenses", sub-title "Public Passenger and Freight Motor Ve-
hicles", to change the registration fees for motor vehicles used for
the transportation of property or freight.

WHEREAS, annual fees for the registration of motor vehicles trans-
porting property or freight as set out in Section 186 of Article 56
of the Code are in conflict with the registration fees for motor ve-
hicles found in Section 81 of Article 66 1/2 of the Code, particularly
Sections 81 (f), (g) and (h), it is desirable to repeal the fees in
Article 56 so that the fees in Article 66 1/2 shall prevail; now,
therefore,

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 186 of Article 56 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Licenses", sub-title "Public Passenger and
Freight Motor Vehicles", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

186.

(a) For each such motor vehicle for the transportation of property
or freight, registered upon application as provided by this sub-title
[(except reserve or substitute vehicles) an annual fee shall be paid
to the Commissioner of Motor Vehicles, as follows:

(b) Commercial vehicles with two axles and equipped with pneu-
matic tires other than those electrically operated shall be divided into
six classes based upon the gross shipping weight of the chassis as
given and certified to by the manufacturer and the fees for each class
shall be as follows:

Class Shipping Weight of Chassis in Pounds Fee

1 Less than 2500............................................. -................... -.......................... $ 30. 00

2 2500 and over but less than 3500................................................. 50. 00

3 3500 and over but less than 5000................................................. 70. 00

4 5000 and over but less than 6000................................................. 100. 00

5 6000 and over but less than 7500......... ——................................. 150. 00

6 7500 and over............................................... ».................................................. 260. 00

(c) Commercial motor vehicles with three axles and equipped with
pneumatic tires, other than those electrically operated shall be di-
vided into six classes based upon the gross shipping weight of the
chassis as given and certified to by the manufacturer and the fees for
each class shall be as follows:
