There being no further nominations, the Hon. William S. James
was unanimously elected Temporary Presiding Officer.

AFFIRMATIVE

Senators:

Barrick, Bertorelli, Dean, Dorf, Dorsey, Gonder, Hall, Hepbron, Hughes, James,
Johnson, Jones, Mach, Malkus, North, Parran, Phipps, Phoebus, Pine, Schweinhaut,
See, Shipley, Snyder, Weant, Wheatley. Total—25

NEGATIVE—NONE

The Senator from Baltimore County and the Senator from Somerset
County were appointed to escort the President Pro Tern to the Chair.

The Journal Clerk then administered the oath of office to the
President Pro Tern.

The Prayer was offered by the Rev. Harold R. Lanman, Annapolis,
Maryland.

The next order of business was the election of a permanent presiding
officer.

The Hon. Frederick C. Malkus nominated the Hon. George W. Delia,
President, which was seconded by the Hon. John Clarence North.

On motion of the Hon. John Clarence North, seconded by the Hon.
H. Winship Wheatley, Jr. the nominations were closed.

The Roll was then called, which resulted as follows:

The Hon. George W. Della was elected President of the Senate
unanimously and the Hon. George W. Della was declared duly elected
President of the Senate.

Please excuse Mr. Della from today's session on account of important
business.

Please excuse Mrs. Nock from today's session on account of a death
in her family.

Please excuse Mr. Sanford from today's session on account of illness
in his family.

Senator Wheatley, duly seconded, moved that Senator James of
Harford County act as presiding officer of the Senate until the elected
President George W. Della return to the Senate.
