1962] OF THE SENATE 105

The Honorable Frederick C. Malkus nominated the Honorable George
W. Delia for President, which was seconded by the Honorable James A.
Pine.

On motion of Mr. Phipps, seconded by Mr. Phoebus, the nominations
were closed.

The roll was then called, which resulted as follows:

AFFIRMATIVE

Senators—

President, Barrick, Bertorelli, Buffington, Dean, Dorf, Dorsey, Gonder, Hall,
Hepbron, Hughes, James, Johnson, Jones, Mach, Malkus, Nock, North, Parran, Phipps,
Phoebus, Pine, Sanford, Schweinhaut, See, Shipley, Snyder, Weant, Wheatley—Total 29.

NEGATIVE—NONE

The Hon. George W. Delia was elected President of the Senate
unanimously, and the Hon. George W. Delia was declared duly elected
President of the Senate.

The Senator from Baltimore County and the Senator from Somerset
County were appointed to escort the President to the Chair.

The President delivered a short address upon taking the chair.

ORDER
By Senator Pine:

RESOLVED, That the following shall be desk officers for the Extra-
ordinary Session, March 9, 1962:

Secretary—J. Waters Parrish of Baltimore County
Assistant Secretary—J. Roy Hill of Howard County
Journal Clerk—Oden Bowie of Prince George's County
Assistant Journal Clerk—C. Upshur Stevenson of Talbot County
Reading Clerk—Donald Hurwitz of Baltimore City
Sergeant-at-Arms—Tilghman Rhodes of Queen Anne's County
Chief Page—Paul G. Hartmanowski of Baltimore City
Postmaster—Robert Campbell of Anne Arundel County

Which was read and adopted.

The above desk officers took their oaths of office administered by the
President of the Senate.

Gentlemen of the Senate:

The House of Delegates, pursuant to the Governor's proclamation,
has met in Special Session and having organized by the election of the
Honorable Perry O. Wilkinson, Speaker and Mr. James P. Mause, Chief
Clerk, is now ready to proceed with the business of the Session.
