Senate Bill No. 459—Peddlers in Wicomico County

AN ACT to add new Section 24A to the Code of Public Local Laws
of Wicomico County (1959 Edition, being Article 23 of the Code
of Public Local Laws of Maryland), title "Wicomico County", sub-
title "Crimes and Punishments", to follow immediately after Sec-
tion 24 thereof, making it unlawful in Wicomico County, with
certain exceptions, to conduct the business of, or to act as an
itinerant or door-to-door peddler or salesman of goods, wares or
merchandise without a license, providing the conditions and pro-
cedures for the issue of such license and relating generally to
itinerant or door-to-door peddlers or salesmen in Wicomico County.

The President put the question, Shall the bill pass notwithstanding
the objection of the Executive?

The President announced the veto was sustained by roll call as
follows:

Dear Governor Tawes:
You have requested this office to examine Senate Bill No. 459.

This Bill would make it unlawful to peddle merchandise in Wicomico
County without a license. The license is to be issued by the Sheriff
after application and payment of a $2. 00 f ee. Proposed Section 24A(c)
grants an exemption to persons selling farm produce and seafood
which have been derived from Wicomico County. Although there is
no objection to exempting a class of produce, such as farm produce
or seafood, nevertheless the exemption must be uniform within the
