III. And be it enacted, That the regifter of the land-office be and he is here-
by authorifed and directed to iffue a patent to any of the faid fettlers who may
comply with this act, as if the whole money had been paid under the faid war-
rant or warrants, any law to the contrary notwithftanding.

CHAP. XXXI.
An ACT for the deftruction of crows in Saint-Mary's county.
And be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That if any perfon or
perfons, refiding in Saint-Mary's county, fhall bring to any juftice of the
peace of the faid county the head or heads of any prow or crows, fuch
perfons fhall, for every fuch head or heads, be allowed, in the county levy of
the faid county, the fum of fix-pence current money; and the juftice of the
peace before whom fuch head or heads fhall be brought, is hereby required to
give the perfon or perfons bringing the fame a certificate thereof, and caufe the
faid head or heads to be burnt, or otherwife deftroyed.

II. Provided nevertheless, and be it enacted, That no perfon whatfoever
fhall be entitled to any allowance for any fuch head or heads, without firft
making oath, or otherwife making it appear, that fuch crow or crows were killed
in the faid county, and that no certificate hath been obtained from a juftice
of the peace for the fame.

CHAP. XXXII.
An ACT to compel owners of houfes in Frederick-town, and its
additions, to furnifh jack leathern buckets.
WHEREAS it is reprefented to this general affembly, by the petition of
fundry inhabitants of the town of Frederick, and its additions, in
Frederick county, that great inconveniences arife in faid town from
the want of jack leathern buckets, for fupplying, in cafe of fire, the fire engines
with water; therefore,

II. Be it enacted, by the General Affembly of Maryland, That all and every
perfon or perfons, owner or owners of houfes in faid town of Frederick, and its
addition, fhall furnifh the fame with good jack leathern bucket or buckets,
having the initials of the owner's name marked thereon with oil colours, ac-
cording to the valuation of houfes, as fixed by the affeffors at their laft affeff-
ment; that is to fay, all houfes, the valuation of which fhall be above twenty-
five pounds, and not exceeding one hundred pounds, fhall be furnifhed with one
bucket, all others, above the fum of one hundred pounds, two buckets, to be
furnifhed within fix months afser the paffage cf this act, and kept in a convenient
place in each houfe.

III. And be it enacted, That if any houfe be rented, and the owner or owners
thereof fhall neglect to furnifh the fame with a bucket or buckets, then it fhall
be lawful for the tenant thereof to furnifh the fame, at the expence of fuch
owner or owners, to be deducted out of the rent of fuch houfe.

IV. And be it enacted, That the magiftrates of faid town, or any two of
them, fhall, after the expiration of the time limitted by this act, appoint a fit
and proper perfon to make due and diligent inquiry at each and every houfe in
faid town, and report to the magiftrate or magiftrates all delinquents under this
act, and all fuch delinquents fhall be by them, or either of them, fummoned to
appear before fome one of the magiftrates of faid town, and if upon examination
it fhall appear, that fuch delinquent has not procured fuch bucket or buckets,
fuch delinquent fhall pay a fum not exceeding twenty fhillings current money,
with cofts, for each bucket not furnifhed, to be recovered as other fmall debts,
and to be applied to the purchafe of jack leathern buckets, to be depofited in
the engine houfes of faid town; and fuch perfon fo appointed to examine and re-
port fhall, if he requires it, receive a reafonable compenfation for his fervices, to
be agreed upon by the magiftrates who fhall have appointed him, to be paid out
of the fines arifing by this act,
