AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 40(h) of
Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition), title
"Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact", sub-title "State's At-
torney", and to add new Section 40(h-l) to said Article, to follow
immediately after said Section 40(h) thereof, to provide for ap-
pointment of Assistant State's Attorney for Cecil County and
matters generally related thereto.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 40(h) of Article 10 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Attorneys at Law and Attorneys in Fact", sub-
title "State's Attorney"; and to add new Section 40(h-l) to said
Article, to follow immediately after Section 40 (h) thereof, both to
read as follows:
40.
(h) Cecil, Harford, Talbot and Wicomico counties.—[The State's
Attorney of Cecil County shall receive an annual salary of $5,000.]
The State's Attorney of Harford, Talbot and Wicomico counties
shall receive an annual salary of $4,000. [The State's Attorney of
Cecil County shall receive an appropriation of $500, to be used for
special work and the employment of extra help, said funds to be
spent only with the approval of the judge of the Circuit Court of
Cecil County.] In Harford County, the State's Attorney, with the
approval of the judge for the Circuit Court of Harford County, may
appoint an assistant State's attorney who shall serve at the pleasure
of the State's Attorney at an annual compensation of $2,000, and
who shall have all the legal powers to represent the State before
grand juries and in the trial of criminal proceedings as does the
State's Attorney. The State's Attorney of Talbot County shall re-
ceive in addition to his salary, $1,800 for secretarial expenses.
40.
(h-1) The State's Attorney of Cecil County shall receive an annual
salary of $5,000.00. The State's Attorney may appoint an assist-
ant State's Attorney who shall serve at the pleasure of the State's
Attorney at an annual compensation of $2,500.00. The State's At-
torney shall have an annual appropriation of $500.00, to be used for
special work and the employment of extra help, said funds to be
spent only with the approval of the judge of the Circuit Court for
Cecil County.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.
