Anne Arundel County, relating generally to alcoholic beverages
therein, and providing for a referendum thereon.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 28 (c) of Article 2B of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1957 Edition), title "Alcoholic Beverages", sub-title "Local Licenses
and License Provisions", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:
28.
(c) Beverages containing more than fourteen per centum of
alcohol.—No license for the sale of alcoholic beverages containing
more than fourteen per centum of alcohol by volume shall be issued
in the first, [fourth,] seventh, and eighth election districts of said
county.
SEC. 2. And be it further enacted, That before this Act shall be-
come effective, it must first be submitted to the legally qualified
voters of the fourth election district of Anne Arundel County at
a special election to be held on June 2, 1959. The cost of the election
shall not be borne by the County Commissioners of Anne Arundel
County and no election shall be held hereunder unless funds are
deposited with the County Commissioners in sufficient amount to
defray the expenses of the election or unless prior to the election
financial arrangements agreeable to the County Commissioners are
made for payment of the expenses of the election. THE GENERAL
ELECTION TO BE HELD IN NOVEMBER, 1960. There shall be
printed on the ballots or ballot labels, to be used at the election,
the title of this Act and underneath the title, on separate lines, a
square or box to the right of and opposite the words "For the Sale",
and a corresponding square or box to the right of and opposite the
words "Against the Sale", so that the voters of the fourth election
district of the county are able to designate his or her decision for
or against this Act. If a majority of the votes cast in the election
in the fourth election district of the county are "For the Sale", then
this Act is effective, but if a majority of the votes cast in the fourth
election district of the county are "Against the Sale", then this Act
is null and void.
Sec. 3 And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.
