sub-title "Compensation and Duties", increasing the compensation
of the sheriff of Harford County.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 37 (1) of Article 87 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land, (1957 Edition), title "Sheriffs", sub-title "Compensation and
Duties" be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted to read as follows:

37.

(1) Harford County.—The Sheriff of Harford County shall re-
ceive an annual salary of [$5,000.] $6,000. He shall appoint such
deputies and at such compensation as may be provided by the
County Commissioners of said county.

Sec. 2 Be it further enacted, That the provisions of this Act shall
not be construed to extend or apply to the sheriff of Harford County
in office on the effective date hereof, but shall take effect with the
next term of office.

Sec. 3. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

Approved March 24, 1959.

CHAPTER 236
(House Bill 266)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 516 (a)
of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Sabbath Breaking",
sanctioning skeet shooting, trap shooting, target shooting or
any similar discharge of firearms in Talbot County on Sunday
and declaring that no work or labor related to the above activities
shall be unlawful because done on Sunday by expressly relieving
these actions from the provisions of Sections 492 and 522 of this
Article.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 516 (a) of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Mary-
land (1957 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title
"Sabbath Breaking", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

516.

(a) Permitted during certain hours; employees.—Nothing con-
tained in Sections 492 and 522 of this article shall be construed to
prohibit or make unlawful the exhibition of motion pictures, the
operation of any miniature golf course or any swimming pool, the
operation of any bowling alley, tenpin alley or duckpin alley or any
