CHAPTER 737
(House Bill 199)

AN ACT to add new Section 45C to Article 7 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Carroll County",
sub-title "County Commissioners", to follow immediately after
Section 45B thereof, Section 45B having been separately added
by both Chapters 697 and 726 of 1957, relating to advertising
and bidding on county public works and other projects and pur-
chases of materials and supplies by Carroll County and relating
generally thereto.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 45C be and it is hereby added to Article 7 of the
Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Carroll
County", sub-title "County Commissioners", to follow immediately
after Section 45B thereof, Section 45B having been separately
added by both Chapters 697 and 726 of 1957, and to read as follows:

45C. In contracting for any necessary public work or improve-
ment or for the purchase of supplies and equipment needed at any
time by the several departments of the County, the County Com-
missioners of Carroll County may enter into contracts for said
public work or improvement and may purchase said supplies and
equipment on an order passed by the County Commissioners provided
that the cost of the public work or improvement or the purchase
price of the supplies and equipment does not exceed five hundred
dollars ($500.00)
ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,000.00). When
the cost of any project for public work or improvement or the pur-
chase price of any supplies and equipment exceeds five hundred dol-
lars ($500.00)
ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS ($1,000.00), the Clerk
to the County Commissioners shall advertise for one week in not less
than two newspapers published in Carroll County for bids to perform
the public work or improvement or to furnish the supplies and equip-
ment, which advertisement shall state the date, time and place of
opening of the bids; and the bids shall be opened by the Clerk to the
County Commissioners in the presence of the County Commissioners,
and the County Commissioners of Carroll County shall award the
contract to the lowest responsible bidder whose bid is considered
reasonable, or, in its discretion, may reject any or all bids.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1959.

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 53 (4)
of Article 2B of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1957 Edition),
