"Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Larceny—Dogs and Cats",
making a dog, bitch or cat the subject of larceny and prescribing
the penalty for their larceny.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 411, of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "Larceny
—Dogs and Cats", be and the same is hereby repealed and re-enacted,
with amendments, to read as follows:

411. Every person [convicted of feloniously taking and carrying
away] who shall steal, take and carry away any dog, bitch [,] or
cat [, or as accessory thereto before or after the fact] shall be
[deemed] guilty of the crime of larceny [, and shall restore the dog,
bitch or cat, to the owner thereof or shall pay to him the value
thereof, and shall be sentenced to confinement in jail for not more
than three months.] , shall be charged and, upon conviction thereof,
shall be punished, in the same manner and to the same extent as if
said dog, bitch or cat were the personal goods of the owner thereof.

Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

(House Bill 439)

AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 223 of
Article 93 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Testamentary Law", sub-title "Inventory and List of Debts",
relating to the compensation to be paid appraisers.

Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,

That Section 223 of Article 93 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Testamentary Law", sub-title "Inventory and
List of Debts", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with
amendments, to read as follows:

223. Said appraisers shall receive such compensation for the
time they are actually engaged in said appraisement as the Judges
of the Orphans' Court shall prescribe [, not to exceed Five Dollars
per diem,]; said compensation to be paid out of the estate of the
decedent after said appraisers have filed an itemized sworn account
[of the number of days they were actually engaged in such appraise-
ment] with the Orphans' Court or Register of Wills, as the case may
be, as to the number of days they were actually engaged in such ap-
praisal;
and after said sworn statement is approved by said court or
register of wills, as the case may be; provided, however, that nothing
contained in this section shall apply to the Orphans' Court or Register
