(House Bill 383)
AN ACT to repeal and re-enact, with amendments, Section 168 of
Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland (1951 Edition),
title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "False Pretenses", in-
creasing the fine allowed to be imposed on convictions of failure
to pay wages.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That Section 168 of Article 27 of the Annotated Code of Maryland
(1951 Edition), title "Crimes and Punishments", sub-title "False
Pretenses", be and it is hereby repealed and re-enacted, with amend-
ments, to read as follows:
168. Every person who, with intent to cheat and defraud another,
shall obtain services from such other on a promise of payment of
wages therefor, and shall fail to pay for said services when payment
is due and demanded shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and upon
conviction shall be fined not more than [twenty-five] Fifty Dollars
[($25.00)] $50.00.
Sec. 2. And be it further enacted, That this Act shall take effect
June 1, 1957.

(House Bill 387)
AN ACT to add new Section 109C to Article 9 of the Code of Public
Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title "Charles County",
sub-title "Fire Companies", to follow immediately after Section
109B thereof, said Section 109B having been added by Chapter
73 of the Acts of 1953, relating to annual payments by the County
to certain rescue squads in Charles County.
Section 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of Maryland,
That new Section 109C be and the same is hereby added to Article 9
of the Code of Public Local Laws of Maryland (1930 Edition), title
"Charles County", sub-title "Fire Companies", to follow immediately
